During a Liver/Spleen scan a radiotracer substance is put into a vein in the arm. It moves through the blood to the liver and spleen. The pattern in which the tracer spreads through the liver and spleen can help find cysts, abscesses, certain types of tumors, or problems with liver function.
You will be asked to have nothing by mouth for 4 hours before the study.
The radionuclide will be allowed to concentrate in the liver tissue about 30 minutes. The exam will take about 1-2 hours.
